Introduction to Historical/Cultural Analysis

Introduction:
The short story Civil Peace by Chinua Achebe is about the struggles and turmoil one family faces during the time period of the Nigerian Civil War. From the death of one of their sons during the war to the struggle to support his family during the economic mishaps
to the theives they faced attempting to rob them of the only money they had, this family was affected extremely by the Nigerian Civil War. The events and aftermath of the Nigerian Civil War during 1967-1970 shape the meaning behind the short story “Civil Peace.” The historical ties to the change of currencies, turmoil of the war, and the string of events during the war all shape and provide understanding to the struggles the family faced.
