"Siren Song"- This poem is about a women's cry for help and her ability to force me to try to help her even though they see that everyone else has failed.
"Ulysses"- This poem is about Ulysses, a hero of the trojan war. In this poem Ulysses looks back at his life and the things he honors about it and the things he questions. The poem talks about Ulysses' strive to never stop.
"Leda and the Swan"- this poem is about the god Zeus taking form of the Swan to have his way with Leda, the Spartan queen. She had to daughters, Clytemnestra, Agamemnon's unfaithful wife, and Helen of Troy. Agamemnon dies in a war which ties to the darkness of the two children she created as a result of her being raped.
Your view on "Siren Song" is interesting. I did not see it as being this negative, but what you say about the poem is interesting as well.
ReplyDeleteI like what you said in the end about"Leda and the swan" and how you think that she created two evils from the act of being raped.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Casey about your response to "Leda and the Swan", and how you connected Agamemnon's death to her creation as a result of being a rape victim.
ReplyDeleteI agree with all of your interpretations of these poems. In siren song she is using her abilities to get men. In Ulysses the poem is definetly a heroic drama.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your interpretation of "Ulysses" but there is more to it than his strive to never stop. This story is supposed to be read as a powerful and moving situation. His desire is far beyond the normal to the point were he is tired of his own wife and entire life because of his need for new and extreme excitement
ReplyDeleteI think that siren song was one of my favorite stories because I think that is shows how females are today and what they do to get the men that they like.
